Getting started

1. Install and open the app

Launch Macro Keyboard Prime after installing. The onboarding flow walks you through each step.

2. Add your Anthropic API key

Create a key at console.anthropic.com/settings/keys, then paste it into the API Key screen during onboarding. The key is stored in the iOS Keychain — only on your device.

3. Enable the keyboard

  1. Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards
  2. Tap Add New Keyboard…
  3. Select Macro Keyboard Prime
  4. Tap the keyboard again and toggle Allow Full Access

4. Switch to the keyboard in any app

Open any text field, then long-press the globe icon and choose Macro Keyboard Prime.

Troubleshooting

The keyboard doesn't appear in Settings

Make sure you opened the main Macro Keyboard Prime app at least once after installing. The container app must launch before iOS surfaces the extension.

Claude shortcuts show "API Key Required" or "Full Access Required"

The Claude features need network access, which only works if Full Access is enabled. Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Macro Keyboard Prime and turn on Allow Full Access. Text-paste shortcuts work without this.

"Invalid API key" when tapping a Claude shortcut

Re-check the key in the app's Settings screen. Anthropic keys start with sk-ant-. If the key is correct, confirm it has not been revoked at console.anthropic.com and that your account has credit available.

The response is cut off mid-sentence

Increase the Max Tokens setting for that shortcut in the app. Higher values allow longer responses but cost slightly more per call.

I edited a shortcut but the keyboard still shows the old version

Switch back to the system keyboard and then back to Macro Keyboard Prime to reload. If the issue persists, fully quit and reopen the app you're typing in.

I want to delete my data

Open the app, go to Settings, and use the reset option to clear your API key and shortcuts. Or simply delete the app — all data is local, so removing the app removes everything.

Privacy and data

Macro Keyboard Prime collects nothing. No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party SDKs. Your API key is stored in the iOS Keychain on your device. Text only leaves your device when you explicitly tap a Claude shortcut — and even then, it goes directly to Anthropic's API, never to the app's developer.
